The Journey Towards Wholeness: Self-Reflection, Identity and Transformation — and what does Tarot have to do with it?
Presented by Carla Savannah
Surviving mental health challenges isn't a journey toward perfection — it's a journey toward understanding.
It's about learning to recognise, accept, and listen to all the parts of ourselves, and bringing them into a more compassionate relationship with one another.
Across time and cultures, humans have used symbols, stories, and archetypes to make sense of this inner world. One such symbolic system is Tarot — not as a tool for prediction, but as a mirror for reflection, identity, and meaning-making.
Isolation and disconnection are increasingly shaping modern life, and many people are feeling the impact of this in their relationships and communities.
When we struggle to understand ourselves — our needs, emotions, and patterns — it becomes much harder to truly understand others. And when we are disconnected from our own inner world, it can be difficult to know how to care for ourselves, let alone how to offer care, empathy, and connection to those around us.
This raises an important question for our time: how do we rebuild connection — both within ourselves and with each other — in a way that supports mental wellbeing and healthier relationships?
Within this context, we are also seeing a growing awareness and diagnosis of personality-related difficulties. Rather than viewing this as simply an increase in labels, it invites us to explore the deeper underlying themes: emotional regulation, attachment, identity, and the impact of chronic disconnection.
Frameworks such as parts work, narrative therapy, and archetypal reflection — including the symbolic language of the Tarot's Major Arcana — can offer accessible ways to explore these inner experiences. They help give shape to what can often feel confusing or difficult to articulate, supporting reflection, insight, and integration.
This workshop explores how self-understanding, reflection, and the integration of different parts of the self can support more meaningful connection — both internally and interpersonally — as we move along the journey towards wholeness.
