Hyunju Kim is an artist who works predominately with etching and drawing. Her magical realism splits worlds and brings different realities together. Kim was born in Korea and studied at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India and Dankook University, Korea. Since graduating Kim has exhibited in the UK, Greece, Egypt, India, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Pakistan, Nepal, France and Serbia and undertaken residencies in countries including France and Australia. My works always have stories which are between my dreams, my self and the world. These stories are combined with my imagination and surrounded by nature. I get many ideas from traveling to meet different people of the world, their diverse cultures and religions. All these things have become inspiration for my work. January The Devil, Diabolus. I don’t think of myself as ‘artist’; I use whatever tools i have available to produce images that have significance to me. ‘What I create amounts to another speck of dust in the winds of time, but on rare occasions, I will open the curtains a crack to let a light refract through some of my gathered detritus.’ I have developed this particular Tarot as a portal to a intra hominem reality; archetypal entities manifesting the nature of each card as distilled essence of personality, ‘Spirits’ an alchemist might say… Fundamental Principles reflected as individuated sentience, acting and interacting so as to define a singularity of being. By exploring the nature of these ‘Spirits’ and their relationships, one might possibly explore the nature of one’s self. Artist: TA

February, The Empress. I created this artwork referencing Rider Waite Tarot Cards integrating it into my Egyptian Meow Series. The idea of this series came from the Egyptian Maus, which are the ancestors of domestic cat breeds. Ancient Egyptians believed that cats were magical creatures. It's so exciting to imagine how cats lived in Ancient Egypt. I really enjoyed creating this artwork. Artist: Iko Maddox

April The Shaman Magician. I created this artwork referencing my interpretation of "The Magician" in the traditional Tarot deck is a sculpted Shaman. The body is air dry clay over wire armature, the face scored and painted in oil paint. The clothing is made from hand dyed fabrics, wools, feathers, shells, jewellery and metals. My Shaman wears the pentagram as an adornment from which hangs the cup. The infinity symbol is worn on the forehead, the sword is in the right hand. The Shaman's staff is the Magicians wand. Artist: Gwenda Blackwell.

May, Queen of Pentacles. I was drawn to create a Queen of Pentacles mosaic piece because of what she stands for and who she represents. When I feel I need to experience more of what a card represents, I immerse myself in that card and one way I like to do that is to create a mosaic piece to feel those qualities as I create the artwork. She is practical, grounded and resourceful. As a coach, I will question - What do I need, to manifest my goals? Where do I feel most at home? How di I experience more flow? Artist: Brigitte Calvert.

June, The Lovers “A Scorpion Pudding” I chose The Lovers Tarot card because it represents love, partnerships, chances, or decisions, but on the other hand, it may also imply poor choices or relationship issues. I gathered the components that were related to these artistic meanings. Love is like a dessert: it’s attractive, sweet, and looks delicious, but it can also come with risks. Like there might be a scorpion inside a delicious pudding or a snake in the donut glaze. The flower and the rabbit both symbolise love. Artist: Phunna Sumonwattanadej

September 'The Hermitess' As a Virgo The Hermit card often lands in my readings and always signals a time of introspection and reflection. The Hermit’s ponderous journey, through a dark wintery forest to the icy peaks behind her, is illuminated by a full moon. The Hermit represents a time of thoughtful analysis, of withdrawal from the daily grind, of being alone. I take comfort when I receive The Hermit, it means I am in a phase of reflection, where I will learn more about my personal motivations and needs. Artist: Susan McInerney

October, The Queen of Swords represents, for me, the essence of mind and air. The philosophy of going with the flow, of non attachment and duality. I have represented The Queen of Swords as an Aquarian woman peacefully meditating with her sword. The sun and moon represent the duality of mind and the balance therein. The apple represents the treasures of going within one’s own conscious experience. The water represents the conduit of knowledge and pleasure and pain that is the wisdom of self. Artist: Light Zero

Viewers are asked to question who in their lives can be represented by Tarot archetypes? This painting is an amalgamation of the traditional symbolism of this Knight, combined with the person who represents those qualities to me. Artist: Hanna Batstone
